Overview
The Historic Preservation Commission (formerly known as the "Historic Preservation and Design Review Board (HPDRB)" and the "Heritage Council") was created by Ordinance #1100, adopted August 28, 1985, amending Chapter 26 of the Code of Ordinances by adding Article VII and VIII, and amended by Ordinance #99-1100.27, adopted on June 1, 1999. To better meet the City's historic preservation needs, Ordinance#1100 was revamped in 2015 and was replaced by Ordinance No. 2015-1606. In 2020, the City approved the Unified Development Code, revamping the development process and in conjunction the name of the board.
The board issues Certificates of appropriateness (COAs) authorizing the total or partial alteration of a structure which is zoned as a historic site within the Historic District.
