Whether you are creative, enjoy working with kids, want to be outdoors, or like to learn new things, come and see how you can use your unique talents and interests as a volunteer.

Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, meet new people, and help preserve Brownsville's natural and cultural heritage for the enjoyment of this and future generations.

Listed below are a few of the various volunteer opportunities the City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department offers.  By sharing your valuable time and unique skills through volunteering, you are helping your local community thrive.

We are currently looking for:

Adaptive Recreation Aide

Share your interest and talents while having fun with some great people! Volunteers help make it possible for people with disabilities to participate in City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department programs. They provide support and encouragement during activities such as Wii games, bingo and cooking.

Office Assistant

Volunteers provide a great service to the staff by assisting with data entry, filing, organizing and answering telephones. Duties include working with staff members and the public, answering phones and taking part in special projects as they come up.

For some, volunteering can be a route to employment, or a chance to try something new which may lead to a career change. From this perspective, volunteering can be a way of:

  • Gaining new skills, knowledge and experience
  • Developing existing skills and knowledge
  • Enhancing a Resume
  • Improving one’s employment prospects
  • Using one’s professional skills and knowledge to benefit others (usually described as pro bono)
  • Meeting new people and making new friends
  • A chance to socialize
