If you are participating in the contest:

SCARECROW TRAIL INFORMATION

1. Make sure you have registered by deadline:  Monday Wednesday, October 17 2022, no later than 4 p.m.

2. Set up will begin on Thursday 10/19/22 at 4 p.m.  

3. Each Scarecrow will be assigned a location. You will be given a 10 x 12 space for your decorations; all items must stay within those boundaries. Please make sure your scarecrows are properly placed and secured to withstand all elements including bad weather.  

4. You must provide a placard with your info.  Placard must be identifiable to the public for voting, should be on a 2 x 4 side corrugated plastic or material to withstand weather elements. 

5.Scarecrows should be complete or nearly finished by 6 p.m. on 10/20/22.  You are welcome to stay in Dean Porter Park as long as you’d like to prepare your scarecrow. Please bring all the tools and supplies needed. Scarecrow locations are assigned on a first come first served basis upon registration.   

6. The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department  is not responsible for any loss or damage to entries. Be sure to inspect your scarecrow periodically and freshen it as needed, especially after inclement weather. Your entry represents your organization or family, so you’ll want it to look great the entire time. 

7. The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to use photographs of the entries for future publicity. 

8. All entries must be kept on display until 10/31/2022. You and or your team is responsible for removal/take down. Take down will be on November 1st  from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Assistance in take down is not provided. NOTE: Any Scarecrow left in the meadow at Dean Porter Park after November 1st  will be disposed of or become city property.  

SCARECROW RULES 

1. No materials that are harmful to the environment should be used. 

2. Make use of your 10 x 12 space for your decorations; all items must stay within those boundaries. Please make sure your “crows” are properly placed and secured.  You are responsible for all of your materials.

3. Scarecrows must be for general audience.  No profanity.  Scarecrows must be in good taste; those that reflect controversial, social or political situations will not be permitted.

4. Scarecrows must be constructed to withstand weather conditions. City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to remove any scarecrow that does not meet these standards.
