Fire Sprinkler Systems
Plan Requirements
Plans shall include, but not be limited to, all of the following:
- Minimum of 3 sets of paper plans. One will be kept at the office and the others will be stamped upon approval and returned to the contractor
- One set of manufacturers parts detail shall be provided with plans
- A copy of current state license issued by the Texas Department of Insurance
- All systems shall be installed in accordance with NFPA standards
- Project name
- Project address
- Contractor name, address, and license number
- Scale
- Date
- Legend
- Floor plans drawn to common scale
- Elevations, ceiling heights
- Storage configurations
- Water flow data
- Riser detail
- Remote locations
- Location of test/drain valves
- Location of FDC
- Location of PIV
- New/existing head locations
- Type and quantity of heads
- Hydraulic plate

Fire Sprinkler Additions or Alterations
- When an alteration consists of 20 sprinklers or less and all floor areas were protected prior to the alteration, updated plans are not required.
- If alterations consists of more than 20 sprinkler heads, plans must be submitted to our office for review and approval prior to installation. @(Model.BulletStyle == CivicPlus.Entities.Modules.Layout.Enums.BulletStyle.Decimal ? "ol" : "ul")>
Acceptance Test
For new systems, the Underground Fire Line acceptance test and flush must be completed and pass inspection prior to conducting the Overhead Hydrostatic Test. NO EXCEPTIONS
Underground Fire Line
- Acceptance tests are to be scheduled and paid for no sooner than 24 hrs in advance.
- Tests to be done during inspection hours. Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-11 a.m. or 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
- Company vehicle(s) must be onsite and clearly labeled.
- The person conducting the test must be licensed.
- A set of approved plans must be on site.
- "As-Built" plans must be provided to the inspector for any deviations from the initial approved plans.
- Thrust blocks in place at any change in direction.
- Thrust blocks must be pre-formed, no pour-in allowed.
- Thrust blocks must not encase the piping.
- Piping must be the correct type and size.
- Pipe identification numbers must be visible during inspection
- Joints must be uncovered and visible.
- Piping must be laid on a bed of sand (minimum of 6 inches deep)
- Magnetic tape must be placed correctly.
- 200+ PSI must be held for a minimum of 2 hours prior to the scheduled inspection. Failure to do so will be an automatic failure.
- Pressure release must be visible on the pressure gauge.
- The system must be flushed for at least 10 minutes.
Overhead Hydrostatic Test
- Acceptance tests are to be scheduled and paid for no sooner than 24 hrs in advance.
- Tests to be done during inspection hours. Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-11 a.m. or 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
- Company vehicle(s) must be onsite and clearly labeled.
- The person conducting the test must be licensed.
- A set of approved plans must be onsite.
- "As-Builts" must be provided to the inspector for any deviations from the approved plans.
- Piping must be the correct type and size.
- Piping and joints must be uncovered and visible.
- Sprinkler heads must be free from obstructions and damage.
- 200+ PSI must be held for a minimum of 2 hours prior to the scheduled inspection. Failure to do so will be an automatic failure.
- Pressure release must be visible on the pressure gauge.
