The City of Brownsville was ranked the 16th safest city in the United States, according to a ranking by SmartAsset.
SmartAsset used violent crime, property crime, vehicular mortality, drug poisoning mortality and population “engaging in excessive drinking,” as a method to measure data.

The City of Brownsville is named a winner in IDC Government Insights’ fifth annual Smart Cities North America Awards (SCNAA).
Brownsville was recognized for their efforts on the Connect Brownsville project in Digital Equity and Accessibility. The awards were designed to recognize the progress North American municipalities have made in executing Smart Cities projects, as well as providing a forum for sharing best practices to help accelerate Smart City development in the region.
Winners in the SCNAA illustrate best practice examples of how forward-thinking municipalities are effectively leveraging technology and innovation to offer new services and economic opportunities to meet the needs and expectations of citizens and residents.
