Mission Statement
In accordance with the mission and policy set by the Mayor and City Commissioners, our legal team advances, advocates and safeguards the interest of the City of Brownsville, aligned with applicable laws. Our proactive approach to legal advocacy provides timely, cost-efficient, quality legal services to support the City Commission, City Manager, and city staff.
About the City Attorney’s Office
The office represents or supervises the representation of the City of Brownsville in all legal matters, including among others real estate, economic development, land use, labor and employment, civil litigation defense, and civil service representation. The office is responsible for the review and/or drafting of resolutions, ordinances, contracts, agreements, deeds and other legal documents in which the city has an interest. The office also prosecutes violations of City of Brownsville ordinances and Class-C misdemeanors in the Brownsville Municipal Court.
In addition, our office provides legal counsel to several City Boards and Commissions, including among others the Brownsville Ethics Advisory Commission, Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Audit & Oversight Committee.
