Section 1


The first section of the map is the title bar, it tells you about the map.

Look over on the very right of the title bar, click on ‘Help Links' to show you a list of helpful links:
The icons on the middle of the title bar are custom search fields that allow you to search for particular information quickly.

For example, do you want to find a specific address? Select the mailbox which is the address search icon.

Select the binoculars which is the select by attribute icon. Enter the address you are searching for and select search. Then see the addresses in the results box.

On the left side of the map is the Legend.

On the left side of the under the legend is the layer list.

The Layer List box contains all of the layers or maps of information that are currently available through the City of Brownsville GIS Working Group.

They are categorized by the following:
  • Base Map Brownsville
  • Business
  • Residents
  • Visitors
To see the layers, select the arrow next to the item then select the box next to ‘turn on' the data or layers you want to see.

Section 4


Navigate the map using a keyboard and mouse
  1. Drag to pan.
  2. Double-click map to re-center and zoom in at clicked location.
  3. To zoom out, press Alt when double-clicking.
  4. Use mouse to scroll forward to zoom in at current mouse location.
  5. Use mouse to scroll backward to zoom out at current mouse location.
  6. Press Shift and click and drag to draw a rectangle around an area and zoom in. To zoom out, press Alt and Shift when drawing the rectangle.
Navigate the map using the Viewer
  1. Use the zoom slider in the Navigation widget on the left of the Viewer, up to zoom in and down to zoom out.
  2. Use the magnifying glass with a plus sign in it on the Navigation widget to draw a rectangle around an area and zoom in.
  3. Use the magnifying glass with a minus sign in it on the Navigation widget to draw a rectangle around an area and zoom out.
  4. Use the hand on the Navigation widget to pan around the map.
  5. Use the circle with arrows around it on the Navigation widget to zoom out to the default zoom extent.

Section 5


To print your map click on the printer icon on the title bar and then do the following:
  1. Type the Title for the map (optional).
  2. Select the layout for the map (optional).
  3. Select the format (optional).
  4. Input printing scale if you want to print in a different zoom scale.
  5. Click Print.
  6. Print PDF, or image that was opened.
