Because of the heat outside, you may need a little help getting motivated to exercise. Here are a few ways you can get motivated and enjoy exercising.
- Commit yourself to change. Be committed to make a difference in your life and with your health.
- Identify with a successful role model. Talk to a co-worker, friend or family member who has made improvements to their health. Learn from their changes.
- Interact with people who are physically active so you can be motivated to do the same.
- Park your car away from store entrances to walk more. You should be walking 10,000 steps a day. Get a pedometer to track your steps.
- Take the stairs rather than the elevator. Stairs burn more calories than standing in an elevator.
- Believe in yourself. Don't sell yourself short. Every step you take is a step closer to a healthier you.
- Stay away from negative people or thoughts.
- Go grocery shopping on a full stomach, to avoid buying unnecessary junk foods (empty calories).
- Keep a journal of your daily exercise and food intake. When you see exactly what you're eating and doing, you realize that you aren't exactly eating healthy or perhaps you need to exercise more. You can set a goal for the next day, to eat healthier or be more active.
- Focus on the small things. Set small goals. If you would like to lose 30 pounds to be at your normal weight focus on intervals of 5 pounds. To be overwhelmed by the bigger picture. One day at a time.
