La Plaza encompasses approximately 5.4 acres in historic downtown Brownsville and includes a new public transit terminal with 12 bus bays, 2 layover spaces and canopy shelters for passenger waiting, boarding and alighting.

  • Brownsville Metro Administrative and Operations Offices
  • Intercity Bus Company Counters

Texas Transit Association (TTA)


The City of Brownsville has received the 2012 Outstanding Small Urban Transit System Award.

Brownsville Metro became the proud recipient of the Outstanding Small Urban Transit System award presented by the Texas Transit Association at its 2012 Texas Transit Conference. It was nominated because of how the La Plaza at Brownsville project highlights innovative concepts and effective problem-solving techniques in the development of coordination planning and practices and in promotion of positive relations and contributions to the community

Five Star Service Award for Excellence in Vitals Registration


The City of Brownsville City Secretary's Office (Texas Department of State Health Services) has been awarded the 2012 Five Star Award for Excellence in Vital Registration in the State of Texas.

The Community Challenge


In 2012, a total of 38 mayors across Texas and several school officials recorded videos asking members of their community to participate in this state wide challenge. A total of 324 communities were enlisted in the challenge and 14,517 individuals were engaged in the effort to make their community a healthier one. The City of Brownsville was one of the recipients of the Community Challenge An Initiative of It's Time Texas.

The year 2012 was a year of accomplishments for the City of Brownsville. One of its shining moments was ranking 1st in the Mid-Size Category of the Inaugural Healthy at H.E.B. Community Challenge. Through a lot of hard work and dedication from the community of Brownsville, top honors were received.

Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting


The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Brownsville for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2011. This was the 35th consecutive year that the City has received this prestigious award.
