BROWNSVILLE, Texas (January 14, 2019) –  At a Regular Meeting on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, the Brownsville City Commission voted to approve an agreement between Texas Southmost College(TSC) and Brownsville Metro to launch a transit pilot program to provide extended transit services for students.

The transit pilot program will connect transit services between TSC campuses at Fort Brown and the International Technology, Education and Commerce Center (ITEC Center) by extending Route 14.

The transit pilot program will provide the following services:

  • Route 14 will offer bus service every 30 minutes and extend service hours from Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. Fridays extended service hours will be from 7 a.m. until 12:55 p.m. and normal service hours will continue on Friday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.

  • TSC students will be able to use Route 14 and all fixed-route services free of charge with presentation of their valid TSC Student ID from Monday through Thursday until May 16, 2019, at the end of the Spring 2019 semester. Route 14 will continue to be available to the general public at the applicable fare rate.

“The City of Brownsville values and supports educational opportunities within our community,” said Brownsville Metro Director Norma Zamora. “We’re thrilled to partner with Texas Southmost College to provide safe, reliable transportation to the community as they work to achieve their goals.”

“We are pleased to collaborate with Brownsville Metro and the City of Brownsville to provide the transit service pilot program to our students for this semester,” said Texas Southmost College President Jesús Roberto Rodríguez.

Brownsville Metro’s mission is to provide safe, efficient, professional, and reliable public transportation with courtesy and concern.
