BROWNSVILLE, Texas (April 17, 2019) – At a Regular City Commission Meeting, held Tuesday, April 16, 2019, the Brownsville City Commission voted to approve Resolution 2019-028 in support of the merger of the three Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organizations into one regional Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Brownsville MPO Chair and Brownsville Mayor Tony Martinez said the re-designation agreement would strengthen the Rio Grande Valley’s regional transportation system.
Additionally, the Cameron County Commissioner’s Court approved the resolution at the Cameron County Commission Meeting on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.
“We are excited about this merger, as the largest MPO in the Rio Grande Valley with multiple ports of entry, Brownsville advances the opportunities for a Rio Grande Valley MPO. I look forward to working collaboratively and equitability with our regional partners as we will expand our current transportation infrastructure and leverage federal funding in the best interest of our current and future residents,” said Brownsville Mayor Tony Martinez “I would like to thank the Texas Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration for their support as Brownville continues to lead the Rio Grande Valley.”
