Public Health & Wellness Director Receives I. E. Scott Award

 

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (November 22, 2016) – City of Brownsville Public Health & Wellness Director Arturo Rodriguez received the I. E. Scott Award at the Texas Environmental Health Association (TEHA) 61st Annual Educational Conference held on October 10-14, 2016, in Austin, Texas.

Established in 1977, the I.E. Scott Award recognizes individuals for superior achievement and attainment of the highest standards in the environmental health profession, as established by I. E. Scott, a founding leader in environmental health in Texas.

I. E. Scott Award recipients must: be a current member, in good standing, of the TEHA; have been engaged in the field of environmental health for a minimum of five years; possess a current Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian (REHS/RS) certification; and exemplify the characteristics and principles for which I. E. Scott stood.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by my peers and fellow public health professionals with the I. E. Scott Award,” said City Public Health & Wellness Director Arturo Rodriguez. “This award brings an immense level of recognition to past and present work at the local and national level, and our efforts to promote health and wellness throughout Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley.”

As Public Health & Wellness Director, Rodriguez oversees all aspects of public health in the city of Brownsville, including foodborne disease, environmental quality, and public health and wellness promotion and advocacy.

Rodriguez holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Texas at Brownsville and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health in Brownsville.

In addition, Rodriguez currently serves as Co-President of the Brownsville-Matamoros Bi-National Health Council working to address border issues, including: infectious disease, obesity, diabetes, family and community health, and overall improvement of health-related issues and quality of life along the U.S.-Mexico border.
