City of Brownsville to Celebrate UTRGV Arbor Day

WHAT:
Brownsville Mayor Tony Martinez will present an official proclamation to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) at the UTRGV Arbor Day Celebration Tree Ceremony & Planting, to be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016, at the UTRGV Brownsville Campus – Main Lawn.
The proclamation designates December 5, 2016, as “Arbor Day” for UTRGV in Brownsville, and urges all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day by planting and caring for trees, and supporting efforts to protect the community’s trees.
Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. As a formal holiday, it was first observed in 1872, in Nebraska.
Monday’s Arbor Day Celebration honors UTRGV’s second consecutive Tree Campus USA recognition and the City of Brownsville’s 17th consecutive Tree City USA recognition.
