CITY OF BROWNSVILLE WELCOMES PRESIDENT OF INDONESIA
President Joko Widodo makes trip to Brownsville, Texas to visit Starbase.
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (May 14, 2022) – Today, the City of Brownsville welcomed President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. The president flew into the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport for a two hour visit at Starbase with Elon Musk, co-founder and Lead Designer of SpaceX.
Honorable Andre Omer Siregar, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia, stated “The President of the Republic of Indonesia visiting Texas for the first time is very special... I am hoping that this visit will inspire more economic cooperation and people to people cooperation.”
President Joko Widodo currently serves as Chair of the G20 Summit and has the goal of uniting Russia and Ukraine at the upcoming session. This is the first time the head of state has visited Texas and the beginning of a long-term relationship between Brownsville and Indonesia. During this inaugural visit, President Widodo was welcomed by District 1 Commissioner, Nurith Galonsky.
“It’s a real honor for the City of Brownsville to host President Joko Widodo. Of all the cities in Texas, to be selected as a first visit to Texas he selected Brownsville.
