BROWNSVILLE, Texas; Feb. 23, 2023 – Houston-based Avelo Airlines announced today exclusive nonstop service to Los Angeles and Orlando from Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (BRO).  

Avelo is the only airline in South Texas offering year-round, nonstop service to both destinations. These routes will begin on May 17 and operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. 

Avelo will serve Orlando’s most convenient airport, Orlando International Airport (MCO), and LA’s most popular airport, Hollywood-Burbank Airport (BUR), bringing a new era of affordable, convenient and reliable air service to South Texas.

Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport Administrator Bryant Walker said, “We are excited to be the first city in Texas to land scheduled service from Texas-based Avelo, as well as being the first Airport to connect Avelo’s East and West Coast networks on the map. Avelo is not only the newest airline to start scheduled service at BRO, but it will be flying the largest commercial airplane to serve BRO in the history of the Airport”.  

These new routes will operate on Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. Avelo’s 737 jetliners are substantially larger and more spacious than the small regional aircraft currently operated at BRO by other airlines – offering Avelo Customers more comfortable seating options and more generous overhead carry-on space.  

With Brownsville’s only nonstop service to Los Angeles and Orlando, Avelo is also making it easy for SpaceX employees and family members to travel between SpaceX’s Boca Chica spaceport and the company’s LA headquarters and Florida’s Space Coast.
