Road construction is underway on Jose Marti Boulevard as the City of Brownsville’s Engineering Department and Public Works Department continue to make improvements in the area.
The ongoing road construction has reduced traffic in the area down to one lane.
The affected area includes traffic traveling north off Ruben M. Torres Sr. Boulevard toward San Marcelo Boulevard.
The lane reduction is necessary to complete road construction and work on water and sewer lines.
The one-way traffic lane will provide access to apartments and homes in the area, keeping traffic “north” in a “one-way” direction to avoid potential conflicts with traffic trying to enter or exit the residence if attempting to exit Ruben Torres Boulevard.
The city encourages motorists to use other Brownsville Country Club streets in the area by entering through Havana Street, San Marcelo Boulevard, north, and south, and to respect one-way thru traffic for Jose Marti Boulevard.
Only individuals residing in the area should use Jose Marti Boulevard during construction in both phases until the stripe is installed for completion.
The project is expected to be completed by February 2024, weather permitting.
