RELENTLESS HEAT TO CONTINUE

outside-of-heatwaves

Relentless heat will continue to impact Brownsville and the rest of the Rio Grande Valley with anticipated heat indices between 111 and 121 degrees.

The National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley has issued an excessive heat warning for Brownsville and the rest of the Valley from noon until 8 PM today.

In addition, a heat advisory has been issued for Coastal Cameron County from noon until 8 PM today.

The peak heat index values are expected between 3 PM and 7 PM  today.

Individuals working outside are urged to remain hydrated and to take frequent breaks. They should wear light-weight and light-colored clothing.

Residents should check on their elderly neighbors and immediately move them into an air-conditioned facility.

Outdoor pets should also be brought indoors.

A similar surge is expected Thursday into next week; the surge, combined with a new plume of higher surface moisture overall, could bring more widespread heat index values between 115 degrees and 120 degrees Thursday through the weekend from mid-afternoon through early evening.

According to the NWS, should this occur excessive heat warnings would be likely for all.
