Alexander Acha, the Mexican singer-songwriter, has been announced as the 2023 Mr. Amigo by the Mr. Amigo Association. The announcement was made on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art. Alexander Acha is well-known for his 2000 hits such as "Te Amo," "Amor Sincero," and "Es Mi Mujer."
In 2009, Acha was honored with a Latin Grammy for Best New Artist. He has also made notable contributions to the entertainment industry by composing and producing the soundtrack for the animated film "Tepeyac," which featured renowned actors Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas.
Acha's involvement in the popular singing competition called La Academia, similar to The Voice, as a finalist and mentor has further showcased his talent and musical expertise. Notably, he is the son of Mexican pop singer Emmanuel.
The Mr. Amigo Association aims to celebrate the shared culture, friendship, and family ties between Brownsville and Matamoros. The Mr. Amigo events will coincide with the United Nations International Week of Friendship, adding to the significance of the occasion.
There are several exciting events scheduled as part of the Mr. Amigo celebrations. These include the Binational Chambers of Commerce Meeting on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023, the traditional Hands Across the Border event on Friday, August 4th, 2023, at 10 a.m., the President's Gala at the Brownsville Events Center on the same day, August 4th, 2023, and the Walk of Fame at Linear Park on Saturday, August 5th, 2023.
Additionally, there will be the Binational 10K Brownsville and Matamoros Run taking place on Sunday, August 6th, 2023. These events offer opportunities for people from both Brownsville and Matamoros to come together and celebrate their shared heritage and friendship.
