Following a request by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas or ERCOT, Brownsville Public Utilities Board is asking its customers to conserve electricity between 5:00 PM to 9 PM today, September 7, 2023, due to high demands throughout Texas.
The high temperatures in addition to forecasted low wind and declining solar power generation could possibly prompt ERCOT to enter emergency operations later this evening because of low reserves due to low winds and declining solar power generation, Brownsville Public Utilities Board said in a news release.
According to BPUB, it typically sees its peak demands at 6 PM and is asking customers to conserve electricity safely during this time.
Here are some ways customers can conserve electricity:
• Turn up thermostats on air conditioning units a couple of degrees.
• Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances.
• Avoid running large appliances such as washers, dryers, and electric ovens during peak energy demand hours (6-9 p.m.)
