Funding from the Capital Improvement Project is being allocated for road improvements, and Old Alice Road has been selected for a major makeover in the City of Brownsville.
The planned reconstruction project for Old Alice Road, from I-69 Frontage to FM 802 is a significant infrastructure upgrade.
According to the City of Brownsville’s Department of Engineering and Public Works, the project will involve a full reconstruction of Old Alice Road, meaning that the existing road will be completely redesigned and rebuilt.
Old Alice Road will consist of two travel lanes which will help improve traffic flow and capacity. There will also be a center turning lane that will allow vehicles to make left turns without obstructing the flow of through traffic.
In addition, there will be a 5-footwide sidewalk that will help enhance safety for pedestrians and promote walkability.
There will also be 10-foot wide shared-use trail on the other side of the street.
Capital Improvement Projects such as the one on Old Alice Road make the roadway a safer and more functional route for both motorists and pedestrians.
