COLD FRONT BRINGS BENEFICIAL RAIN TO BROWNSVILLE AND OTHER AREAS OF THE RGV

weather

A cold front brought some much-needed rain to Brownsville on Thursday, October 5, 2023. The National Weather Service in Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley reported varying amounts of rainfall in different parts of the city:

  • At the NWS station near the Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport, 1.01 inches of rain was recorded.
  • In other parts of Brownsville, there were reports of higher rainfall amounts, with up to 3.7 inches recorded west of the city's center.
  • Additionally, 2.7 inches of rain were reported north and northeast of the city, while 2.46 inches were reported south and southeast.

Given that Cameron County, which includes Brownsville, is still experiencing extreme drought conditions, this rainfall is certainly beneficial. It's especially important since the area has implemented water restrictions under a Stage 2 Drought Contingency Plan  implemented by the Brownsville Public Utilities Board in collaboration with the City of Brownsville due to dropping reservoir levels.

This rain should provide some relief to the drought conditions and may help replenish water resources in the region.
