The City of Brownsville is ranked No. 4 as one of the best affordable places to retire by U.S. News & World Report. The city offers a combination of factors that make it an attractive option for retirees. 

The rankings are based on various factors, including housing affordability, happiness, desirability, retiree taxes, the job market, and access to quality health care. 

U.S. News conducted an online survey of individuals aged 45 and older to gather information about retirement preferences. This year, factors such as price parity and the ability to afford everyday goods and services were added to the calculations.

Brownsville residents benefit from lower-than-average costs for everyday expenses, such as groceries. 

The enjoyable climate in Brownsville, allows residents to enjoy nearby beaches year-round, adds to the city's appeal as a retirement destination.

The median home price of $276,671 and median monthly rent of $785 indicate that housing costs in Brownsville are below the national median. 

Brownsville has also received positive rankings in other reports, such as being ranked as one of the most affordable places to live in the U.S. and as the eighth-best place to live in Texas. 

 Brownsville's rank as the eighth-best place to live in Texas is based on criteria such as desirability and quality of life. These factors are crucial in assessing the overall satisfaction of residents and the attractiveness of the area to potential residents.

The rankings are backed by data from reputable sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI, the U.S. Department of Labor, and U.S. News' own internal resources.
