CHARGERS DEFEAT CORPUS CHRISTI TO WIN REGION IV-5A DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFF GAME

The Brownsville Veterans Chargers are the Class 5 A Region IV Champions.

The Chargers defeated Corpus Christi Miller 35-28 in the Region IV-5A Division final Friday at Sams  Stadium.

A crowd of about 10,000 gathered at Sams Stadium to watch the Chargers take on CC Millers Buccaneers in a game that had been hyped up all week long.

Brownsville Veterans will meet Smithson Valley in a Class 5A DI state semifinal next week. 

The game sold out in a matter of days and the City of Brownsville was full of excitement as football fans had been waiting for what is sure to be an exciting game. 

Marquees and billboards around the city had been showing their support for their hometown team.

The digital billboard at the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau is showcasing slides in support of the Chargers. Marquees around BISD campuses also have messages cheering on the team with one at Garden Park reading “Supporting our Chargers Making History in Our City and BISD.”

The Chargers were also getting support from local businesses in Cameron County on social media as well as businesses congratulate them and wish them good luck in their upcoming game.

The City of Brownville congratulates the Chargers on this historic win.
