RIDE WITH COMMISSIONER DR. ROSE GOWEN ON THE WEST RAIL TRAIL SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY AT OLIVEIRA PARK

Ride With Commissioner

The Brownsville Community is invited to participate in a 6-mile bike ride with Brownsville City Commissioner At-Large “B” Dr. Rose Gowen on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

The event will take place on the West Rail Trail, starting at 8:30 AM at Joe and Tony Oliveira Gonzalez Park at 104 El Paso Road and concluding at the Brownsville Flea Market.

The trail offers a scenic route with lush open fields, benches, shade structures, and other amenities for an enjoyable experience.

Brownsville City Manager Helen Ramirez, AICP, expressed her support for Commissioner Gowen's ride and announced the upcoming initiative called "The Challenge." This initiative aims to promote healthy living, weight loss, and the reduction of diabetes and cholesterol in the community.

Ramirez emphasized the significance of community involvement and unity, referring to the trail as a result of years of advocacy by community members since 2008. She encouraged residents to make use of the trail, emphasizing that it belongs to the community and will benefit generations to come.

“You’ll hear me say One City a lot. The community is what makes it special. It was a whole advocacy of community members since 2008 advocating for this trail and look it’s here and it’s going to be here a long time for multi-generations to come. That’s your trail. This is your community’s trail, use it,” Ramirez said.

Dr. Gowen encouraged community members to join the bike ride in any way they prefer, whether by biking or walking along the trail.

“It’s a fun-filled morning of pure free smiles. There’s no reason not to smile. It’s going to be a beautiful day like this. It’s free, it’s fun. Bring a friend, bring family, create some memories and let’s do it,” Gowen said.

The event is a chance for the community to come together and celebrate the trail as a shared space for recreation and well-being.

The 6-mile bike ride with Dr. Gowen on the West Rail Trail is not only an opportunity for physical activity but also a celebration of community and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
