CITY COMMISSION HIGHLIGHTS FOR JAN. 3, 2024 CITY COMMISSION MEETING

City Meeting

During the January 3, 2024, regular City Commission Meeting in Brownsville, several important decisions and discussions took place. Here are some of the highlights.

Amendment to Unified Development Code about Sidewalks: The Commission approved, on first reading, an amendment to an ordinance within the unified development code. This amendment mandates the installation of sidewalks along the entire street frontage for all types of developments, including subdivisions, new developments, redevelopments, as well as for permit applications related to repairs, construction, and developments in infill lots.

 Denial of Event Hall Permit: On first reading, the Commission denied the issuance of a specific use permit for an event hall planned to be located at 5001 Stagecoach Trail, behind the Stripes store at the intersection of Alton Gloor Boulevard and Stagecoach Trail.

 Approval of Billboard Applications: The Commission approved three applications for erecting billboards at the following locations: 4397 North Expressway 77/83, 700 East Alton Gloor Boulevard, and 1175 East Alton Gloor Boulevard.

 Proclamations:

Recognition of Parks and Recreation Department: The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation was recognized for receiving CAPRA accreditation, a significant achievement that underscores the department's commitment to quality, efficiency, and excellence in service delivery.

Recognition of Mary Rose Cardenas: The Commission honored Mary Rose Cardenas, a native of Brownsville, for her extensive service and leadership contributions to the Brownsville community, including the educational and medical sectors. Her role in various city organizations was particularly highlighted.
