BROWNSVILLE, Texas (January 14, 2024) – City of Brownsville officials continue to monitor the arctic cold front that is making its way to deep South Texas and is expected to sweep across Brownsville as early as Sunday evening. City leaders are coming together, as needed, to update their action plans to ensure the safety of residents and businesses alike. The cold snap is expected to last through Wednesday and bring temperatures in the 30s and 20s with it.

“We are working around the clock with numerous agencies to have centers, shelters, and resources, available for our community members in need,” said John Cowen, Jr., Brownsville City Mayor. “We are addressing the needs of our community with anticipation and preparation. This is all about safety and support for the people of Brownsville.”

“Our City service departments are working together to ensure we are prepared to provide support and assistance to our community,” added Helen Ramirez, AICP, Brownsville City Manager. “We are working as ONE CITY to provide our community as much support as they may need during the cold spell. Our City of Brownsville Support Call Center is ready to assist residents and businesses in any way we can.”

City leaders have enlisted the support of the Brownsville Police Department (BPD) during the next few days with transportation services. The BPD is offering those in need transportation to any one of the warming centers, shelter, or other public spaces available to those in need. Residents may call:
