VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETING AND OPEN HOUSE TO BE HELD TO DISCUSS WIDENING OF DANA AVENUE

Dana Ave

The Texas Department of Transportation is proposing expanding Dana Avenue from FM 3248 to Ruben Torres Sr. Boulevard and will hold a virtual meeting and in-person open house to receive public input.

The virtual meeting will consist of a pre-recorded audio and visual presentation and will be posted online by Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 5:45 PM, and the in-person open house will also occur on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 5:45 PM at Daniel Breeden Elementary School cafeteria located at 3995 Dana Ave in Brownsville.

The virtual meeting link can be found at:   https://ccrma.org/hearings-meetings-and-notice-schedules/ or www.txdot.gov (keyword: Dana Avenue in Cameron County)

TxDOT in cooperation with the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority, Cameron County, and the City of Brownsville are proposing the project.

The scope of the project would include widening and reconstructing 2.4 miles of Dana Avenue from a 24-foot rural road to a 56-foot rural road with a usual 80-foot-wide right of way. The proposed road would include two 12-foot travel lanes, a 12-foot continuous left turn lane, two 10-foot shoulders, a 10-foot shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians, and a 6-foot-wide sidewalk. Drainage would be provided by a drain system. The project would include right-turn lanes at major intersections and schools.

In addition, a 120-foot-wide ROW is proposed at a new bridge over the Resaca del Rancho Viejo, and at the existing bridge over Cameron County Drainage District’s Ditch No. 1 to improve approaches. Additionally, approximately, 300 feet of incidental construction would occur within the existing right of way south of FM 802 to ensure proper intersection alignment. A total of 7.97 acres of proposed right of way would be required for the project.

The virtual public meeting and the in-person option will be conducted in English and Spanish.
