TEXAS COMPTROLLER GLENN HEGAR FEATURED SPEAKER AT TEXAS TALKS LUNCHEON

Hegar

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar was the featured speaker at a recent Texas Talks Luncheon hosted by the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce.

The event provided those attending with the opportunity to stay informed and network with like-minded individuals who share a passion for the growth and prosperity of our community.

Hegar is charged with maintaining the state’s fiscal health and as Texas’ chief financial officer, he is the treasurer, check writer, tax collector, procurement officer, and revenue estimator, a job that is particularly important as the state continues its strong economic growth amidst ongoing global economic and geopolitical instability.

Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. introduced Hegar at the Texas Talks Luncheon held at the Brownsville Events Center attended by local community members.

“Brownsville is currently experiencing an unprecedented economic boom, a testament to the resilience, hard work, and innovative spirit of our community.  This boom is reshaping our landscape, creating new opportunities, and elevating our city’s status on both the state and national stages,” Cowen said.

“The importance of this economic surge cannot be overstated. It is the driving force that will propel our community into a future brimming with possibilities. In essence, the economic boom is the foundation upon which we will build a stronger, more prosperous Brownsville,” Cowen said.

Hegar spoke about the Texas economy; it being the eighth largest economy in the world and the growth that Texas continues to experience.

In addition, he spoke about what is happening in South Texas, specifically Brownsville, and about the economic opportunities that are occurring.

“There are a lot of economic opportunities, a lot of exciting projects and people are moving to Texas. Why? For economic opportunities for them and future generations,” Hegar said.

Esmeralda Villarreal, the president of the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, remarked on the Texas Talks luncheon as a showcase of Texas' status as one of the fastest-growing states in the U.S. This event, therefore, not only highlighted the economic potential of Brownsville and Texas at large but also served as a forum for discussing strategies for harnessing these opportunities for the community's benefit.
