CITY OF BROWNSVILLE RECOGNIZES BISD SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY

BISD

The City of Brownsville is proud to recognize the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) and its Board of Trustees for its leadership, guidance, and contributions to the children of Brownsville.

The district recently celebrated School Board Recognition Month, during the month of January, in an effort to appreciate and acknowledge the dedication and work of school board trustees.

The theme of this year’s School Board Recognition Month is “Locally Elected, Community Connected,” which highlights the connection between school trustees and their communities.

“On behalf of the City of Brownsville, I’d like to express my gratitude to the BISD school board of trustees for their extraordinary service in helping Brownsville children thrive,” said John Cowen, Jr., City of Brownsville Mayor. “The time you spend in board meetings represents just a small fraction of the hours you devote to leading the district. You are dedicated individuals who are committed to the continuing success of our schools and students.”

School board trustees play a crucial role in the education system. Their service reflects a deep commitment to the community. By dedicating their time and expertise, they shape the educational landscape, ensuring that it aligns with both the community's needs and broader societal goals.

In the context of BISD, the Board of Trustees not only oversees the educational vision, but also works diligently to provide the necessary structure and support for the school system. Their role as advocates for public education extends beyond the school walls, involving effective communication with the public to align the district's needs with community expectations.

During the recognition month, we reflected on and appreciated the substantial contributions of these individuals. Their commitment helps in steering the educational direction of BISD, impacting the lives of students and, by extension, the future of the community and society.

The City of Brownsville joins Interim Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jesus H. Chavez, in recognizing the dedication and hard work of local school board members and in working with them to mold an education system that meets the needs of both today’s and tomorrow’s children.
