The 72nd annual Brownsville Scout Government Day, held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Brownsville City Hall, provided Boy and Girl Scouts with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the operations of local government.
Mayor John Cowen Jr. and city commissioners welcomed the scouts before they were administered the oath of office by 445th State District Judge Gloria Rincones.
This event provided the scouts firsthand experience in understanding the day-to-day functioning of local government. Brownsville City Manager Helen Ramirez, AICP, delivered a presentation on the State of the City, offering valuable insights into governance, challenges, and plans.
After the presentation, scouts, accompanied by their adult mentors, were assigned to various job positions within city departments. This hands-on experience allowed them to grasp the practical aspects of departmental functions and their roles in serving the community.
