WHAT:
Community Development Corporation of Brownsville (CDCB) YouthBuild Brownsville, in partnership with the City of Brownsville, will host “AmeriCorps Member for a Day” in honor of AmeriCorps Week 2017, to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Tres Angeles Park, East 8th Street & East Tyler Street in Brownsville.
“AmeriCorps Member for a Day” celebrates the City of Brownsville’s partnership with CDCB YouthBuild Brownsville and the Brownsville Wellness Coalition on the Tres Angeles Park project. CDCB YouthBuild Brownsville students will initiate construction on two pergolas and assist the Brownsville Wellness Coalition with the Tres Angeles Community Garden.
CDCB YouthBuild Brownsville is a comprehensive program including construction training, leadership development, and community service dedicated to empowering young adults by helping them attain their educational and career goals.
All CDCB YouthBuild Brownsville students are part-time AmeriCorps members, which qualifies them for college scholarships upon completion of the program. In addition, CDCB YouthBuild Brownsville provides training stipends, classroom uniforms, work gear and a range of support services.
AmeriCorps Week 2017 is a time to salute AmeriCorps members and alums for their service, thank AmeriCorps community partners, and communicate the impact AmeriCorps has on communities and on the lives of those who serve.
This year, AmeriCorps Week is celebrated on March 4-11, 2017, aiming to increase overall awareness of the valuable contributions members make to communities across the nation.
