BROWNSVILLE, Texas (March 23, 2017) – At a Regular Meeting on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, the Brownsville City Commission voted to award an architectural services contract for the renovation of the former La Casa del Nylon retail establishment located on 1304 E. Adams Street in Downtown Brownsville. Renovation plans will feature a new Administrative & Training Facility for the Brownsville Fire Department.
Brownsville Fire Department administrative offices are currently housed within various buildings in Downtown Brownsville – El Tapiz Building, City Plaza, and Fire Station 1.
Within the new Administrative & Training Facility, all Brownsville Fire Department administrative offices, including the Office of the Fire Chief, the Training & Education Division, the Office of the Fire Marshal, and the Emergency Medical Services Billing Division will be housed in one location for increased efficiency.
In addition, the project will feature a training facility for Fire Technology and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training, CPR classes, and Special Operations Training for unmanned aerial systems, hazardous materials, high-angle rescue operations, and aircraft rescue and firefighting.
“The new Administrative & Training Facility will incorporate all of our administrative services in one, all-inclusive location that will help streamline operations for increased efficiency and added convenience for our residents,” said Brownsville Fire Chief Carlos Elizondo. “The state-of-the-art training facility will also be an excellent addition to the Brownsville Fire Department as our skills expand to meet the needs of our residents. We are committed to providing the highest quality of service to our community, and we thank the Brownsville City Commission for their continued support.”
“On behalf of the Brownsville City Commission, we are proud to support the Brownsville Fire Department and all of our emergency medical staff,” said Brownsville City Commissioner District 4 John Villarreal. “The future Brownsville Fire Department Administrative & Training Facility will serve to further complement the City of Brownsville’s efforts to revitalize Downtown Brownsville alongside many other great developments like the Market Square Revitalization Project, the Brownsville Performing Arts Academy and the recently constructed La Plaza at Brownsville Parking Facility.”
