BROWNSVILLE, Texas (April 3, 2018) – This Earth Month, Brownsville residents can show their support for our municipal parks by nominating our city for the “Meet Me at the Park” Earth Month campaign, sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), The Walt Disney Company — including Disney|ABC Television Group and ESPN — to help fund local park improvement projects across the country.
Brownsville residents are encouraged to celebrate Earth Month by nominating the City of Brownsville at NRPA.org/Disney throughout the month of April for a chance to win $20,000 in grant funding.
At the end of April, the community with the most nominations will receive the grant funding to make improvements at a local park. Everyone who nominates a city will be entered into a drawing for a GoPro Prize Pack. Encourage your friends to nominate our city by taking a selfie in your favorite park and using the hashtags #MeetMeAtThePark, #Parkies and #CelebrateEarth.
“Brownsville Parks provide essential health, wellness and development opportunities to our community,” said Parks & Recreation Department Director Damaris McGlone, CTRS. “Every grant brings us one step closer to meeting our goal to make Brownsville Parks among the best in our nation and enhances our mission to provide exceptional programs, facilities, parks and trails while celebrating and preserving the community’s natural and cultural heritage.”
“At NRPA we believe everyone deserves a great park. That’s why we’re proud to collaborate with The Walt Disney Company on this campaign,” said Lori Robertson, NRPA director of conservation. “Everyone is encouraged to join us in giving back to the places that shape so much of our lives by participating in this year’s campaign. A nomination for your favorite park is all it takes.”
The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department manages 37 parks encompassing over 1,000 acres of parkland, features 32 miles of hike/bike trails, 3 gymnasiums and pools, 50 buildings and structures, over 55 athletics fields, and the Catherine Stillman Dog Park.
