WHAT:             

The City of Brownsville, in partnership with Priya Trakru, will host the free Pawns & Queens: Chess Clinics for Girls on Friday, June 29, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brownsville Public Library – Main Branch, 2600 Central Boulevard, Brownsville, Texas.

The Pawns & Queens: Chess Clinics for Girls is the first of a series of free chess clinics led by Brownsville resident and Women’s FIDE Master, Priya Traku to encourage and promote girls to pursue an education and career in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The Pawns & Queens: Chess Clinics for Girls is funded by the Her Lead Fellowship for Young Women On Their Way.

“The City of Brownsville is thrilled to partner with the youth in our community to provide
opportunities for our young people,” said Interim City Manager Michael L. Lopez. “We    encourage residents to participate and visit the Brownsville Public Library system to learn about exciting events and opportunities.”
