The cost is zero. Membership is free.

Who is eligible for membership?
Brownsville Children between the ages of 6-17. Signed registration form by parent/guardian must be submitted to the office.

When does the program begin and end?
The After School Recreation Program follows the school year calendar. We begin the first day of school, and end the last week of school, Monday through Friday between 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

When is the registration office open?
The registration office is open Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Registration forms may be picked up at 1338 East 8th Street and during Recreation Program hours of 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Can my child stay after 6 p.m.?
No. If your child does not make arrangements to go home at the requested time, please make sure to do so yourself. Always pick up your child promptly. Any child remaining on the premises after closing will result in a call to law enforcement officials.

What are the rules?
Please realize that this is a community program focused on recreation, respect, safety, and fun. We will not permit any illegal activity, rude behavior, bullying, fighting, destruction of property, theft, harassment, prejudice, and or anything that would cause harm to self, other children, staff, or the public. Failure to abide by rules set at our parks may result in immediate expulsion.

Do I need to sign my child in and out every day?
No. The ASRP follows an Open-Door Policy. Participants are free to sign themselves in and out of the building. However your child’s safety is our first concern; therefore your child is required to sign in and out in case of an emergency, we can account for everyone in the building.

How should my child dress?
Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for activities and movement: T-shirts, pants or shorts and sneakers are suggested.
9.
Can you just give my child aspirin for a headache?
No. If your child needs to take any type of medication (prescribed or non-prescribed), medication must be provided and given by the parent/guardian.

Why can't my child bring his/her hand-held game?
City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation cannot be responsible for any lost or stolen property. Our Recreation Leaders require your child's attention/ items from home can be distracting to other students and the instructor. Exceptions may apply during special themed or play days. Please check with site's schedule and supervisor for more details. Plus we have various game systems on site which time is earned throughout the week for appropriate behavior and active participation in our program.

Can I join my child for a game of basketball during ASRP hours?
No. ASRP is for children aged 6-17 only. In order to keep our participants safe, the park/facility is not open to the public between the hours of 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. If you are interested in open gym, please contact 956-547-6857 for schedules and information.
