1. How high can my grass get before I am in violation?

6. How long does it take an Ordinance Enforcement Officer to respond to a violation?

Brownsville Ordinance Enforcement Officers have 72 hours to respond to a violation, starting the next day after violation was called in.

7. It has been more than a week since I called in a violation of high grass and the Ordinance Enforcement Officers came and put a sign up, but this is all they did. When will the grass get cut?

If a violation is found for high grass, the process can be lengthy. The Ordinance Enforcement (OE) officer will attempt to make contact with the property owner, by certified mail (about a 7-day process). If the OE officer is unable to reach the property owner, they will then submit the property for mowing with a contracted company (another 7-day process). It will be about 14 days before property's grass can get cut. However, if the OE officer finds that the grass is to be more than 48 inches long, they can put in for an emergency mowing which will be a 7-day process.

8. How high does the grass have to be to qualify for emergency mowing?

The grass must be 48 inches or more.
