Established in 1850 in historic downtown Brownsville and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.

Some of the historic figures buried at the Old City Cemetery include Rafael Morales, a Mexican soldier in Santa Anna’s army who fought against General Sam Houston in the battle of San Jacinto in 1836.
