Rene E. De Coss received a bachelor of arts and a juris doctorate from Baylor University and Baylor School of Law in 1995.
Upon graduation, Mr. De Coss worked at the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office from 1996 to 1997.
He has been in private practice since 1998 concentrating in criminal, civil, juvenile, and family law at the state and federal levels.
He was hired as a contract Municipal Court Judge on September 23, 1999, and then was appointed as an Associate Municipal Court Judge on September 17, 2001.
Mr. De Coss was appointed to the 445th State District Court by Governor Greg Abbott in October 2015.
Upon completion of the appointment, Mr. De Coss was then reappointed as an Associate Municipal Court Judge on December 13, 2016.
On October 16, 2018, the Brownsville City Commission hired Mr. De Coss as City Attorney for the City of Brownsville, Texas.
Mr. De Coss is a member of the Cameron County Bar Association and Cameron County Criminal Defense Bar Association.
He is married to Maria Teresa De Coss and has three children.
